Tips for Streamlined/Faster Combat and damage calculation

Post by thorgibrewer »

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions, tips, or tricks on combat? What I thought would have been a 20-30min combat session between two dwellers and two denizens went over a hour. So I am here to see with people who have run this system more than I have if you had any suggestions to speed up combat.

While I am still learning proper balancing for my players, I have discussed the following with my group as possibilities:

• changing from the middle damage track to the white damage track
• make denizens have essence closer to being equal to their destiny
• develop some sort of "order of operations" for damage calculations as it felt like alot of the combat was counting up damage dealt v PF (rage and getting hurt constantly changed these values)

thanks for any tips you all can share that work for your games.

Welcome thorgibrewer!

The first fights will always take longer, but as you learn the system, it will get faster and the goal should be 30 minutes for 4 combatants.

Did you checkout the Norn thread?
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=79

As a Norn you want your denizens to be memorable, but not the ones dragging out the fight. Quick and terrifying.
1) Make their Essence = to Destiny
2) DO NOT use the white track, that will make the fights LONGER. You want quicker, go with the BLACK track, that will speed things up, death will be swift and fights terrifying.
3) As your players to be tallyingup their numbers before their turn. After your rager takes damage, he should recalculate his bonuses right away so he's ready when it's his turn.

Enjoy!
