Creatures from Fairy-Tale and Myth 5e

Post by andrew »

I'm curious how many people play 5e as well as our beloved Ragnarok game?

I'm considering dropping some rules snippets in this thread in order to get some feedback. I'm mostly happy with the manuscript overall, but I have a few things that just don't click right. While I'm making adjustments and adding polish, I may want some feedback from Ragnarok players who also know 5e. My latest challenge is setting the right CR for the monsters, but after spending a few weeks dissecting the existing 5e monster stats in an excel spreadsheet, there doesn't seem to be an obvious formula and the DMG monster creation rules don't work in recreating what's already in the Monster Manual. I'm obsessing over getting this right, and I've found a few interesting articles:
https://theangrygm.com/monster-building ... 1u6C2CIwvs
and
http://blogofholding.com/?p=7338&fbclid ... zjvxjs4zog
...that shed light on the "art" of CR. I thought about dropping it altogether, but I'd rather supply the best one I can with a healthy disclaimer. I have a "regular" set of 4 D&D characters, and another set of min-maxed characters. This allows me to run some simulations and assess each of the creature's 5 tiers. LOL it's starting to feel like I'm spending more time on CR than the time needed to write up the very cool powers. If only they used the same system PC's use to create characters for the development of monsters (like I did with Raganrok), then you'd be able to wrap your head around the difficulty rating of a monster/encounter. Anyways, this has been my white whale as of late. If anyone has some good web resources for this, I'd like to solve this before getting to the rules snippets.

Many thanks!

I have been playing 5E for awhile but really am not a huge fan of the system and definitely prefer the Rune system for Ragnarok.
