How dark are your campaigns?

Post by theRajjj »

I like really sick and dastardly dark campaigns for an apocalyptic setting. While FOTN:R comes across as dark and fatalistic, I find the 2006 edition was definitely darker. How about your game groups, how dark do your games get?

I prefer to maintain an air of hope to my campaigns. Many players feel disinclined to continue if they feel a situation is hopeless or that their presence wont improve things.

While running Fanfir's treasure I ended the arch with Evingrad being totally leveled and everyone becoming refugee's. I made a whole list of everyone still alive and split them into faction around the wreckage all in need of food/shelter/warmth all this set to Aud and Valstagg (who I made a size 18 Golden Bear when he rages) battling inside the city walls.

The players had not solved the zombear problem and so the attacks will continue to tax the surviving population and with the cornerstone of the world opening up as a giant rainbow light beacon to every realm all the kings and warriors are on their to this coast to do battle. Tasking the players with establishing a new outpost in the wreckage with nothing more than a city of thieves who are more likely to stab each other than share a little bread is super fun and dark. But they strive on because they know about all the realm ore's in the mountain from magnus (Im leading into the adventure in the back of DoTn)

Good news is they got to keep the ring and have a pile of skatt worth 100,000 if they can transport it (the pile of money with fafnir's treasure) and the ring!
Bad news is the council of wright soveigns has captured valstagg (their betrothed) and are performing a ritual to consume his Divine Potence and gain it for themselves in an attempt to flip the pantheon on its head cause THIS IS RAGNAROK END OF GODS!

also i enforce darkness so ya darkest darkness is how dark i dark the grimdark of finbledark.

I wouldn't say mine is particularly dark, but I did work to make it deadlier. was somewhat hard with the maiden there, and the short duration over lunch.
