Ok, so the other day we were in a situation with a farmer and his daughter. I won't wax poetic on why a farmer still seems to have work during Ragnarok, but at least he was consistent with his cliché. It didn't sit well with him when someone had apparently touched his daughter.

Things happened, but I'll skip straight to Max Rage at this point.

The farmer was a bit hurt, fully raging, and not too discriminating about who he wanted to force into marrying his daughter. Our Seithkona decided that Shrink was the best solution to this conundrum.

Then the frogged farmer got his turn...
Passives, Conditions, Actives all still work. A frog may have a base move of 0, but Rage and other bonuses still bring that up. Base damage due to size is still 1, and again Rage et al boost that up. Heh, our poor Seithkona was surprised to receive that much damage from a frog.

Here's an artist's rendition of Viking frogs:

Base unarmed damage is Size -3, which at size 0 is -3. So the frog won't do any unarmed damage unless he has Rage and at least 4 runes in the wound piles, or Rage 4 and at least 2 runes in the wound piles. Even withh Passives active, I don't quite see which ones would dramatically increase that damage (unless the farmer had, somehow, Fangs and a high level, which would be an entirely different problem for the Seithkona...)

1 - Minimum damage due to size is always 1, so start there.
2 - There are a bunch of passives that boost unarmed damage (fangs, might, bestial heart, blood lust, bully, desperation, etc.).
3 - The farmer was indeed at max rage and had taken some damage.
4 - Our Seithkona is a glass cannon ("who needs defense when you can drop over 90 Spiritual damage each round?" -Seith Carlos).
5 - In that fight, most of the enemy damage was dropped onto our Seithkona and it was of the spiritual variety.
6 - Even if it were just 1 point of damage, putting the fear of death into someone with a frog is hilarious.

1. Can't find that in the rulebook. Unarmed damage is Size -3. There is no negative damage, so minimum damage is 0, but any damage boni can indeed be canceled out by Size below 4. Or Effigies would be ridiculously good.
2. A farmer with Fangs?
3. Possible.
4. 90 spiritual damage means he's got to have a few runes for all those Amplifies. Much Cannon, not much Glass.
5. Ouch :)
6. Oh yes, it is :)

Since information isn't always easily found in games' core rule books, FotN being no exception, size-based natural damage is described on page 129 for those that may need to refer to it in the future. You always start by finding your base damage (for things size 4 or smaller, it's 1) and after that, you factor in your bonuses. You don't keep applying the size penalty because it only used to calculate base damage.

Effigies are quite good, by the way, as are familiars ~ you could make a tiny army of wood effigies that have 2 Essence and 2 Destiny, each of size 1. They run around Taunting and poking their foes with little pitchforks. Devilish!

Since he said he may post it one day, I won't go into detail on the Seithkona's build. If I recall correctly he has 12 runes in Essence and a Destiny of 4. With the damage we see on average being 30~50 PER HIT, with the occasional "boss" hits of 100+ each, he could easily die in a single round if we're not careful. Granted, he heals like there's no tomorrow but that's why Spiritual Damage is so incredibly painful to him.

You guys get some bonus points for finding another typo! Page 129 and page 131 contradict one another on minimum damage. I'll add that to the errata. Minimum damage should be 1. Thanks!
