The Rune App Thread (iOS and Android)

Alright a brand new version of the Rune App has just gone live. We upgraded the app framework to Unity (for the tech geeks) which was important since our old framework using Adobe Air, support was being deprecated by the mobile platforms.

We took this opportunity to upgrade the looks and feel. Here are the features (old and new)
  • -You get 6 playmats that remember the state of the game
    - Swipe right to access the essence bag
    -You can rename each playmat
    -You can set the essence rating of each playmat by swiping up and down on the essence icon (destiny coming soon)
    -For players: You add all runes and then remove the ones you don't want by tapping on them
    -For Norns: tapping on the essence icon will randomly seed your bag with runes
    -Tap the upper arrow on the playmat to draw runes
    -Tap the lower arrow on the playmat to take damage
    -Swipe up and down on conditions to raise or lower the intensity
    -Drag void runes and DP tokens onto the playmat as needed
    -The end of round icon at the top on the screen will put all runes back into each and every bag from the upper regions (in-hand, in-play and contingency)

fanastic! i'm excited to see work still being done on this, and Unity has a wide range of support. i'm using an ipad for this, but several of my table use android i think

Some things that I'm noticing
  • my players repeatedly requested a way to pick and choose the runes they added when making a character. it's not especially hard to select 24 then remove them, but they'd like a pick from the set option.
  • I like the tap to "tap" the rune
  • i don't see anything for Flow.
  • it might be neat to have a landscape view that does the Norn playmat

Raleel I definitely agree on the choose a rune bit. I get asked that every time my players level up.

I don’t think there’s ever been anything for flow. DOTN just says to do it on the rage marker. That said, I think a mat with condition markers for Flow, Charm, and MAYBE for the sake of thoroughness something for Madness or Miracle (I’m less interested in markers for those 2 since I don’t anticipate them coming up often enough in my game for it to make that huge a difference, but for someone with Orlogs and Missionaries regularly in their game, it might be helpful so they can have Miracle and Curse active simultaneously, for instance).

While we’re on the topic of condition markers, I’ve had some players say they prefer the new bead icons, others say they preferred the old numbers. I think the beads are easier to see, but I’d also kind of like something like the old number display, with the addition that you can set the intensity higher than 4. It would be helpful for running powers like Swallow, where there’s a huge number of intensities that need to be reduced. I also may or may not have established a precedent in my game for Angrboda slamming players with 13 intensities of possession, so that could be part of why I’m interested in this...

The redesign is pretty great over all. Great look. Larger runes are easier to read. Love the set essence, looking forward to set destiny. My only real complaint is that there seems to be a bit of lag. All in all though, great job. Looking forward to seeing what else y’all come up with.

There was some discussion on another thread of making it possible to program your powers into the app so you can tap a rune to get the full explanation of the power. Is that still in the works? If so, any idea when we can expect it or if there will be a way to enter homebrew powers?

Side note, is there a way to do swarms on the app? I mean for instance a 5 destiny swarm of 10 snakes, each with 3 runes for health comes out to an Essence 30, Destiny 5 swarm, if I understood LOTA correctly. Is there a way to put in 30 runes?

If not, I think a toggleable setting for swarm essence/destiny would be amazing. Mass encounters are really fun, but they can be a bit of a pain if you don’t use the LOTA swarm rules.

Hi I just picked up the app for iOS and noticed that the end turn button is resetting all the runes not in stun, the white wound space, death or drain. Any runes in any other wound space is being reset when I push the end turn button

Version of the app says 2.0.5 in the bottom corner and I’m on the most recent iOS update

Thanks for the bug report. I'll get my dev to look at this. What phone and OS are you running?

Has anyone noticed issues with the rune app on iOS? I cant get to the area where you build your rune bag and conditions are not being marked properly.

Thanks jstomel, could you send a screenshot of the problem and confirm if you're running the latest version (2.0.5) ?
