Hello,
just today I've played my very first game (3 chapters so far) of Vanagard. I have a problem with understanding essence. In manual it is said that in case of failing a challenge the essence cards are discarded. But what happens in case of success? Do they just go back to the deck? Do we draw essence from the deck randomly (we were drawing top 2 from shuffled decks), or do we look at all available essence cards and choose which are the best for current challenge? In case of losing one of drawn essence cards, do we choose one randomly or can we choose ourselves which essence card to discard?
Cheers!

Re: Essence cards rules clarification needed
Hi Episodex,
At the end of a successful Challenge drawn Essence cards should be shuffled back into the Hero's Essence Deck.
At the end of the failed one, 1 Essence is discarded per drawn rune. If there are cards left on the table after this, they should be shuffled back into the deck. If more cards are discarded than on the table, the remainder to be discarded should be drawn from the deck.
Essence is recovered via Support Tokens or at the end of the game.
I hope that clarifies.

Thanks for answer! So to be perfectly clear:
- at the end of each chapter everyone who used essence must shuffle the deck (or he shuffles immediately after his action, same end result)
- essence cards are drawn as we did - top 2 (or more) cards from shuffled deck
- what about discarding cards from table? is it random or player can choose which to discard? (I guess we must discard random cards as we discard remaining cards from deck also randomly)
I can't wait to continue the story btw
. The game looks great and I'm happy, my 5yo daughter could play it!

You're correct.
As for discarding, you choose what's on the table. Then, if you need to discard more Essence than you drew, you do so from the top of your dek.
Hope this helps.

Re: Essence cards rules clarification needed
One more thing as I'm watching the example gameplay from the other thread. When we create hero we choose 6 essence. Is it the rule that it should be 2 cards of each talent? The manual doesn't clarify this but in example there (Signy) it's two of each and in example gameplay on YT it's also two of each. But when we created our heroes we did it like for example: 3 Chase, 2 Hunt, 1Play. Is there any rule about this or we can do 6 Chase even? Can we choose talents not present on nature card when creating hero?

Good questions.
You should be able to choose any mix, even cards that aren't in your nature (I think the example has such). To avoid being a one trick pony, I'd always keep a mix of 3 talents, with no more than half going to any singular one.
