So, is anyone else reading Rick Riordan's latest? It does for Norse mythology what Percy Jackson did for Greek mythology. Not entirely a bad thing if it inspires people to dig into the original stories. Besides it is fun, and has some laugh out loud funny bits in it.

Not even the strangest take on Northern mythogy I've read. There was a sic-fi version of the Rhine Gold.

I'm about half-way through Magnus, it's set partially in Boston, partially on the Nine Worlds on Ygdrasil. It concerns the fate of Frey's sword. The dramatic tension comes from the question of whether and how Surt will free Fenris and kick off Ragnarock. Magnus is trying to prevent or at least postpone this.

There is a great quote about the workings of Fate: "The thing about Fate, even if we can't change the big picture, our choices can change the details. That's how we rebel against destiny, how we make our mark."

Perhaps I'll pick them up and see how they are for reading to my kid. He's only 5 so not quite ready for reading yet but might like the book.
