Someone on Facebook asked for a list of movies they could watch to get in the mood for Fate of the Norns. I figured I'm make the thread here, so more peeps can chime in with their favourites and this can remain as a resource for future players. So here are the ones that pop into my head:

Vikings (1958)

Probably the first one to pop into my head when people ask about a viking movie. Game of braids- 'nuff said.

13th Warrior (1999)

A classic!

Eric the Viking (1989)

It's a great comedy and probably the kind of campaign you end up with after your players derail your story-line.

Valhalla Rising (2009)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0862467/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
More of an "art film" than a "movie", it's still evocative.

Vikings (TV Show)

Messed up timelines, but entertaining.

The Last Kingdom (TV Show)

Great novels, ok tv show.

There are a few to avoid... one was Pathfinder... another was the Norseman...

Oh and then there are some adventure movies that fit the theme but aren't Viking movies per se. First that comes to mind here is:

Black Death (2010)

Ha, was logged-in as admin yesterday... only noticed now.

I'd add Lords of the Rings and the Hobbit today. Tolkein was heavily influenced by the Norse myths.

Beowulf the animated movie- if you can get past the bad CGI, it's a pretty great story.

Conan the Barbarian is also superb as inspiration for questing.

Gladiator can also be a good inspiration for an RPG tale that involves thralls and liberation... or perhaps just an ancient tale that picks up at the start of the Viking age and the end of the Roman empire.

Similarly I would add Excalibur (1981) to the mix as a longer epic where you can play different generations and a shift as one age ends and another begins.

Braveheart would be another good one to get some campaign ideas for the Great Isles.

and I think Willow (1988), but it's been a long time since I saw it. I do have memories that it did inspire some adventures in our D&D game back in the day.

Anyone else have some good suggestions?

Beowulf and Grendel. It features Sarah Polley so worth watching for that if nothing else.

You did a right thing. Such threads help a lot in leading us towards what we are looking for. It was because of such a thread only that I was able to find shows by Andy Yeatman on Netflix for my kids. I am so happy that they are learning good morals and smart ideas from all these shows.
