Thanks Andrew! :)

How about some good novels? Any recommendations?

I would highly recommend Brian Cornwell's Warrior Chronicles. It follows Viking raids in Anglia and Wessex, pulling in several historical characters and doing a great job of weaving fiction into a strong historical base. You'll find reference to many big players found in FotN, such as King Aethelstan (or mostly his father, Alfred the Great). Being historical fiction, the folklore component is depicted more in superstition and beliefs, but it's an incredible series in my opinion. Very Viking!

I'm also currently reading The Long Ships by Frans G. Bengtsson, and it's phenomenal. It was recommended to me as the "if you only ever read one book about vikings, this is the one to read." Which is odd, because I try to read a lot of them, but this one somehow has stayed off of my radar until recently.

There is so much flavor in this book so far, and I love it. It looks like it's mostly about a viking who raids throughout western Europe south of scandinavia, so there may not be a lot of inspiration as far as the "Midgard" region. But the viking flavor and society is fantastic. Please add it to your list!
