If my Druid were to die, I’m considering a stalo keeper, but I’m confused by the ancestral weapon text. Can someone please clarify it for me? Particularly how access to qr of the weapon works.

Heya Drach, Ancestral Weapon works very similarly to Sacred Wood Binding... what part needs clarification?

Mostly how QR works. As an example, for a keeper stalo, at what QR does his ancestral weapon start? Also if he starts at level 10 and thus can make use of 7 of the AW’s QR, at level 12 does he still only get to make use of 7 or can he use up to 8? And does the keeper’s level advancements also build on the total QR of the item?

Denizens of the North page 326
"The weapon has a very high QR" so its assumed that it has been in the family for a long time. The dweller can benefit from a small portion of it (half the wielder's level, minimum 7 QR).

So assume you make a level 20 Keeper, you would have 10 QR to spend on customizing your ancestral weapon.

If your Druid made it up into the heavens, your Disir would be 1, and you'd gain a 10% increase on the allowable QR (so +1 making it 11 QR).

Every 2 levels you gain, you'd get to unlock another 1 QR worth of effects from the Ancestral Weapon, so in fact it's like you are crafting a weapon with stats of your choosing.

Multiple instances of this skill make the weapon harder to damage and easier to fend off a disarm attempt.

Makes sense?

Yes, thank you. And I’m guessing the Norn then arbitrarily decides the QR of the weapon ie just how ancestral the ancestral weapon is?

Just my two cents - as the Norn I'd basically make the QR on par with the max QR of an item made by a skilled Blacksmith of the same level as the Dweller, which is a QR of about 75% of the Dweller's level.

I've come to HEAVILY use the Denizens of the North section where it gives guidelines for how well-equipped (in terms of QR) a group of 4 Dwellers should be on average. I've been using it strongly when figuring out how to both equip Denizens who DON'T rely on things like Unencumbered Dodge/Fangs (like Trolls), NPC Dwellers, and on the QR for loot that I don't want to be entirely random (using the tables in the back of the core book.)

Most of the Stalos never got to the max QR, I usually set them very high, 20,30,40...

And does the norn or the stalo decide on the additional attributes and/or infusions for the ancestral weapon?

Also, my Druid did die, hence the upswing in stalo questions hehe

The player does, but you can house rules otherwise.

Did your Druid make it into the heavens?

Unfortunately no, but then again he didn’t live long enough to perform any epic deeds
