https://fotn-voluspa.obsidianportal.com ... ent-174168It was horrible odds - Only two out of six players initially showed up, including one mountless rider, against 2 swarms of 5 shades each, one great wolf, and five more shades trying to possess Dreki. We quickly got swamped by a combo of mental damage + blinding spells, and would have been wolf food in 2-3 rounds if a third player hadn't shown up to take some of the pressure off.
It was our first time playing with the semi-official swarm rules, and I think it worked great! The built-in resistance to conditions neutralizes a lot of our usual tricks, but if you do manage to get past it (For a swarm of 5, hit them with 3 intensity, or just hit them 3 times with the same condition), it's very rewarding because each individual member gets the codintion, which for degenerate can do a lot of damage.
And we finally got to use the new death rules we introduced, whereas a player can either stop taking damage just before death, or die but get one last wyrd from death pile, for one heroic action. That let the potion-bearer give it to Dreki just as the wolf tore her to pieces, a suitably climactic finale.
