The last session, my players planned a trip poorly, failing to bring enough food for the round-trip. This prompted me to quickly come up with some rules for hunger and starvation. I figured I'd toss them up here for comment:

  • First three days without food, no effect.
  • After that, runes no longer recover from Drain.
  • For the next fifteen days, one rune every five days goes from Essence into Drain.
  • After that, one rune per day goes into Drain.

Yup, perfect! Use Ultimate Sacrifices and Drain to model anything that requires a slow death (poison, hunger, exposure, etc)

If you have determined that runes comes out of drain at a rate of 1 per 6 hours in your game world, then start the hunger that 1 Ultimate Sacrifice every 6 hours. Then up the frequency of the Ultimate Sacrifice to every 5 hours, then every 4, etc...
